JULY BLOG - Passive Protest

I hope no one was holding their breath for the monthly jokes I promised a few months back.. Apologies it has taken me longer than expected to get this thing off the ground consistently. I have been working so many makers markets all over San Diego, LA and even San Francisco! 

I looked at the previous blog post to see where I left off and I can’t believe what I thought was heavy then, compared to what is happening in the world now. During the last few months I have realized that my chaos and passion to create does actually have some sort of productive process to it. I often create from my emotions and my gut, and I felt that the hearts I have been sewing onto sweatshirts just weren’t conveying the message I have been feeling anymore. So I moved on from empathy to action. I no longer wanted my product to have an interpretive theme and rather wanted my messaging to be more direct, so I began with actual words like RESIST, DO GOOD and FIGHT FASCISM. 

I love hand making these sweatshirts because I not only get to use my left over deadstock scraps, but also because I get to intentionally put my creative energy into sewing each item. I truly believe that art is resistance and if the messaging of the art is a protest, it's like a win-win!

I have named the collection “Passive Protest Pullovers” and have been making them for a few months now. I do love an alliteration but honestly I can never remember the word. ;)
